As a German living in Sweden since more than a decade ago, I've often appreciated the impact the Law of Jante has on Swedish culture. However, at least in central Stockholm, many people nowadays express aversion against the Jante Law, as they associate it with the old socialist Sweden in which many of the freedoms (and choices) of today apparently didn't exist. Jantelagen, or the law of Jante as it would be called in English, is not a law per se. It’s more of a set of unwritten rules which kind of dictates how Swedes (should?) live their lives. It’s the Swedish way of life, one could say. Swedes loves the word LAGOM.
